Scored some movie posters!

Posted Friday, April 20th 2007

Went to the cinema yesterday with my girlfriend to see a movie, but nothing interesting was on.. Anyway, I saw some posters I liked, and I asked one of the guys working there what they do with the posters once the movies are out - and he asked me which posters I liked - so I said “Hot Fuzz, Smokin’ Aces & Shooter” - as those were the ones I could see being on walls and such. He said wait a few minutes, and he came back with 5 posters - Hot Fuzz, Smokin’ Aces, Shooter, Nacho Libre & Tokyo Drift.

Score!

Joost Invitation Giveaway

Posted Tuesday, April 10th 2007

Joost!
I’ve got 5 Joost invitations to give away. If you don’t know what Joost is - check out Joost.com - but in a nutshell, it’s TV over the Internet. Quite interesting, although the content is somewhat limited.

Anyway, as is the trend with things nowadays, it’s invite only (Sitescore, I’m looking at you..), and I was lucky enough to snag an invite a few weeks ago. Now I’ve got a few (five) invites to give away. So if you want one, fire off an e-mail to zerosignal@gmail.com, and I’ll send you an invite if I’ve still got any. This will be on a first-come, first-served basis.

So um.. Good luck, I guess?

EDIT: They’ve all been sent out. I’m sorry folks. Though I might have more stuff to give away in the future. :)

EDIT May 2nd 2007: I’ve got 6 more invitations to give away, and some of them will go to random people from the comments posted in here.

Mark Shuttleworth: DRM doesn’t work!

Posted Tuesday, April 10th 2007

Mark Shuttleworth is known to many geeks across the globe, and is an interesting figure for many reasons, not least the fact that he was the 2nd space tourist.

Anyway, Mark wrote a great piece on DRM, and it’s a suggested read for everyone:

The truth is also that, as the landscape changes, different business models come and go in their viability. Those folks who try to impose analog rules on digital content will find themselves on the wrong side of the tidal wave. Sorry for you. It’s necessary to innovate (again, sometimes!) and stay ahead of the curve, perhaps even being willing to cannibalize your own existing business - though to be honest cannibalizing someone else’s is so much more appealing.
Read the rest here.

Also, Microsoft will start selling DRM-Free tracks in the Zune store. Sweet.
