Saturday Afternoon..

Posted Saturday, November 12th 2005

I mean.. I guess this still qualifies as afternoon - it’s not 7 pm yet.
If there’s something I have to do, I have to get my sleep habits back to normal. Yesterday I spent a substantial amount of time at university, and as a result, during the last 2 hours of class I was really sleepy. In order not to doze off during class, which is embarassing and insulting, I had some coffee. Coffee has a very strong effect on me, because I don’t drink it regularly, and because of this, I couldn’t sleep till 4 am. And I had coffee at 8 pm. I hate twisting and turning in bed. I was really really tired and really needed the sleep, but couldn’t sleep. This morning I got up at 9, so I haven’t slept much. I hope to get to bed at a more normal time tonight.

My girlfriend was supposed to arrive on monday, but because she has some unpostponable obligations, she’ll be here on wednesday. So much for looking forward to monday.

I feel odd lately. Hardly any motivation to do anything…

The Appeal of Calvin & Hobbes

Posted Thursday, November 10th 2005

Everyone knows Calvin & Hobbes - one of the best daily comics ever. Well, unless you’ve been living under a rock somewhere, or you’ve got no sence of reality.

Anyway, a great thing to check out is this. Should be a great read for all C&H fans.

Bah..

That is all.

Gaming bliss!

Posted Saturday, November 5th 2005

I’ve hit gaming bliss. Those that know me, know that I’m a gamer at heart and that I absolutely love playing good, involving and exciting games. I’ve never been heavy into strategies or RPGs, but action shooters are something I’m a huge fan of. Since I got some new hardware a few months ago, I’ve been waiting to play something that will really get me excited about games again.

And ladies and gentlemen, that is Quake IV.

Almost everyone is familliar with the Quake franchise. Quake 1 and Quake 2 were strong singleplayer games with a strong multiplayer component, while Quake 3 was pretty much multiplayer-oriented from the get-go. Quake IV brings back the singleplayer component, and it is very good indeed.

I’m not going to write a full review. I might at some point in the future, but I’d just like to point out that Q4 is a really good game. It has faults, no doubt about it, but it’s still a very good game. The story is quite good, the scripting adds to the imersion and the overall feel is very good. Level design is excellent, and apart from the last few levels, it never gets repetitive. The enemies are very well made and as menacing as anything I’ve seen out there. The AI is not really earth-shattering, but they pose a decent threat. The sounds are pretty good too, though I would have liked some beefier sounds for the weapons.

Graphically, the game is amazing, bar some minor details. The DOOM III engine certainly makes things look sweet.
All in all, a great game. Certainly not game of the year, but it has some great moments in it. Give it a go.

Back!

Posted Wednesday, November 2nd 2005

Our server was offline for about two weeks. We got slashdotted and served a boatload of data in a very short amount of time, so the server had to go offline for the rest of the month. However, we’re back, and we’re in full effect again.
Many things happened over the past few weeks, and I really missed having this place. I guess I got used to having a place to speak my mind.
My girlfriend visited for a few days and that was awesome in every possible way. It felt good to spend time with her. Seeing how she’s some 550-odd kilometers away, spending any time together is great. Yeah, we talk and all, but having her here - that’s completely different.
I’ve got my hands full with studies. Constantly have something in the back of my head, reminding me of work that I have to do. It’s generally stuff I like doing, but sometimes it all gets a bit too much.
RIP Tippy.
