Gaming bliss!

I’ve hit gaming bliss. Those that know me, know that I’m a gamer at heart and that I absolutely love playing good, involving and exciting games. I’ve never been heavy into strategies or RPGs, but action shooters are something I’m a huge fan of. Since I got some new hardware a few months ago, I’ve been waiting to play something that will really get me excited about games again.
And ladies and gentlemen, that is Quake IV.
Almost everyone is familliar with the Quake franchise. Quake 1 and Quake 2 were strong singleplayer games with a strong multiplayer component, while Quake 3 was pretty much multiplayer-oriented from the get-go. Quake IV brings back the singleplayer component, and it is very good indeed.
I’m not going to write a full review. I might at some point in the future, but I’d just like to point out that Q4 is a really good game. It has faults, no doubt about it, but it’s still a very good game. The story is quite good, the scripting adds to the imersion and the overall feel is very good. Level design is excellent, and apart from the last few levels, it never gets repetitive. The enemies are very well made and as menacing as anything I’ve seen out there. The AI is not really earth-shattering, but they pose a decent threat. The sounds are pretty good too, though I would have liked some beefier sounds for the weapons.
Graphically, the game is amazing, bar some minor details. The DOOM III engine certainly makes things look sweet.
All in all, a great game. Certainly not game of the year, but it has some great moments in it. Give it a go.
